LeAnn Pierce holds a B.S. in Biology from East Carolina University and credentials in business and technical communications — the first in her family to attend college. For roughly three decades she owned and operated a 62-room hotel in Carolina Beach. First elected to the Board of Commissioners in November 2020 and re-elected in 2024 (term 2024–2028), she was unanimously chosen Board Chair in December 2025. Pierce represents the county on the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority and other regional bodies. Her record emphasizes fiscal restraint and property-tax discipline, oversight of the Novant transition following the sale of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and investments in stormwater and flood mitigation as the county grows.
